Organizers billed the event, held in Fengtai District under the theme \u201cFlowers Without Borders,\u201d as the city\u2019s first open-street flower exhibition, featuring more than 1,000 flower varieties from over 30 countries and regions across a sprawling 120,000-square-meter footprint.<\/p>\n

A Show That Spilled Into the Streets<\/strong><\/p>\n

Previous editions of the biennial event were confined to convention halls and gated parks. This year, organizers abandoned that model entirely. Instead, the show adopted a \u201cstreet-style\u201d layout, with one core exhibition area supplemented by more than 60 themed gardens and 28 hidden floral installations scattered across sidewalks, office plazas, and shopping concourses. The result was a living garden that commuters, shoppers, and office workers could experience without buying a ticket or passing through a turnstile.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to dissolve the boundary between garden and city,\u201d a spokesperson for the organizing committee said. The show\u2019s footprint included a 25,000-square-meter core exhibition area<\/strong> and a 100,000-square-meter outdoor exhibition space<\/strong>, with 41 professionally designed gardens blending public leisure areas with competition entries and themed installations.<\/p>\n

International Designers Bring Global Perspective<\/strong><\/p>\n

Inside a 2,400-square-meter indoor hall, visitors found premium flower varieties, tropical plants, and creative potted arrangements. But the most talked-about works were outdoors. Dutch designer Jutis Vanderplu created a \u201cFuture Garden\u201d centered on alpine rhododendrons, designed to inject nature into dense urban spaces. Vanderplu noted that China\u2019s flower industry is expanding rapidly and holds strong market potential, a sentiment echoed by British designer Mark Gregory.<\/p>\n

Gregory focused on the link between nature and human well-being, incorporating biodiversity and organic elements into his urban installation. \u201cTime spent among trees and water can help people relax and clear their minds,\u201d he said. His garden featured native plants and water features designed to encourage calm and reflection.<\/p>\n

Surprises Around Every Corner<\/strong><\/p>\n

Beyond the formal gardens, the show\u2019s charm lay in its unexpected details. Twenty \u201cfloral surprise\u201d installations appeared at building bases, street corners, and commercial plazas. One popular stop was the \u201cBook Planting Project,\u201d where fresh flowers were combined with books for a literary-meets-botanical experience. The show\u2019s cartoon mascot, \u201cHuatuantuan,\u201d appeared on rooftops and signage, while the iconic Lize SOHO tower was reimagined inside a giant beer mug installation.<\/p>\n

At night, the district transformed again. Light installations merged with blooms to create an after-dark experience of touring, shopping, and entertainment. Organizers said the nighttime program proved that a flower show need not close when the sun goes down.<\/p>\n

Cultural Programming Adds Depth<\/strong><\/p>\n

The organizers paired the botanical display with a broader cultural program. The Lize International Consumption Season drew on themes from Lu Xun\u2019s essay collection \u201cDawn Blossoms Picked at Dusk\u201d and other world literary classics to build a literature carnival celebrating both flowers and books. The \u201cBlossom Roaming Land\u201d event was organized into five sections: gourmet food, creative cultural souvenirs, family-friendly activities, interactive experiences, and leisure spaces.<\/p>\n

A calligraphy and painting exhibition explored \u201cromance with plants\u201d through brush, ink, light, and shadow. At Jinzhongdu Ruins Park, the show partnered with Beijing\u2019s forestry authorities to host a \u201cCitizens\u2019 Garden Week,\u201d featuring garden designs created by residents from all walks of life. The event underscored that the show was not only about imported blooms and professional designers but also about Beijing\u2019s residents claiming a stake in the celebration.<\/p>\n

Record Attendance and Industry Impact<\/strong><\/p>\n

Public response was immediate. In its first week alone, the show drew 338,000 visitors<\/strong>, instantly establishing the Lize district as a new cultural and tourist landmark. Over the full 33-day run, the exhibition offered more than 100 categories of flowers, with five Chinese-bred cultivars making their global debut among the newly developed varieties on display.<\/p>\n

The show also served as a serious industry gathering. Professional sub-events included the International Dialogue on Garden Cities<\/strong>, the Dialogue on the Development of the North Temperate Flower Industry<\/strong>, and the \u201cLize Cup\u201d Garden Building Competition<\/strong>, judged by top experts from China and abroad. New cultivar launches and gardener sharing sessions showcased the latest innovations in the floral industry.<\/p>\n

A Lasting Template for Urban Horticulture<\/strong><\/p>\n

What made the 2026 edition remarkable, organizers said, was not simply its scale but its philosophy. By letting flowers spill into daily life \u2014 onto sidewalks, into office plazas, through shopping concourses \u2014 the show demonstrated that a flower exhibition does not need walls to leave a lasting impression.
